Lexington Reaccredited Three-Star Rating From The Sustainable Restaurant Association

 

Lexington Catering, one of the leading contract caterers in London, has been renamed a Three-Star Sustainability Champion by the Sustainable Restaurant Association (SRA). The team were acknowledged for their variety of healthy eating options and their local and seasonal approach to sourcing ingredients, for which they gained an impressive 90% score.

 

Mark Linehan, Managing Director of the SRA, said: “Lexington is an outstanding example of a caterer who understands that to succeed you cannot stand still in any part of the business. The company is all about continuous improvement and has put sustainability at the heart of everything it does. In the past year it has introduced a number of healthy eating initiatives as well as a no air freight policy. We take the very greatest pride in our members who strive to implement positive changes in this way.”

 

The team were commended for their year-on-year improvements across the three SRA pillars of Sourcing, Society and Environment. Julia Edmonds, Managing Director at Lexington says, “We are delighted with the feedback – it is a great tribute to the commitment and hard work of our fabulous team.

The SRA’s Rating, known as the Michelin Stars of Sustainability, is a global standard, which lays down benchmarks for any organisation serving food that wants to establish and improve upon its ongoing commitment to sustainability, particularly with regards to its approach to sourcing food and its impact on the environment and society.

 

Society

Lexington increased the overall score by 10%, since 2014

  • The team have worked hard to improve training programmes and induction schemes for the team (100% score).
  • Lexington’s team of development chefs have been leading the way when it come to healthy eating, making sure there are a variety of options including more vegan and vegetarian options.
  • Lexington supports the local community (99% – community engagement) – the team work with local schools and colleges but also support charities, including Dreams Come True and Great Ormond Street Hospital School.

 

Sourcing

Lexington achieved 90% score with regards to sourcing local and seasonal produce

  • Lexington was noted for their excellent use of supplier/produce stalls to promote British produce.

 

Environment

Lexington improved the supply chain process by 21%, since 2014

  • Lexington regularly review their work with partners to improve the supply chain process and impact on the environment.
  • The team have improved their score for waste management by 35%, since 2014.
