Lexington and Elior’s Chef Development Programme Wins TJ Award 2016

Elior UK was awarded Gold for Best Operational Programme, at the 2016 Training Journal Awards, at an awards ceremony last week. The award was presented at a fabulous gala dinner, which was held at The Brewery in the City of London.

Judges said, “The chef development programme is not only helping to address a skills gap in the organisation but it is helping to address a skills gap across the country. A scarcity of skilled chefs has led the team to internally develop chefs from a range of different backgrounds and have a significantly high success rate of trainees continuing with the company after their training.”

In November, Lexington Catering and Elior’s Business & Industry business launched the London-based chef school, which is based on the existing Elior chef school, located in Grantham. The programme runs for nine months and involves monthly training in college. In addition, participants will visit markets with the team and carry out practical work experience at a special event where they can get to put their skills to the test.

Mike Sunley, CEO of Lexington and Elior’s City B&I business said, “The chef school supports Lexington and Elior in retaining some incredibly talented individuals. Not only does it give our team the opportunity to progress into a chef role but it works alongside our other initiatives to address the skills shortage in the kitchen.”
