Co-founder and Chief Executive of Lexington, Mike Sunley, has been selected as one of the UK’s most inspiring leaders having been shortlisted in the Leader of the Year category, in the first Investors in People Awards.

The Awards, which received over 500 entries from all over the UK and different sectors, will celebrate the best people management practices amongst Investors in People accredited businesses, with winners being announced at a ceremony held on 23 June.

The Leader of the Year category recognises superb management skills in those who lead by example and empower their workforce. Lexington’s Mike Sunley is shortlisted alongside four other companies in the category.

Mike has been the driving force behind Lexington since establishing the business in 2002. His determination, positivity and motivation have ensured that the company has grown year on year both in terms of turnover and people.

Mike says, “I am delighted to be nominated for this award. I would not, however, have been able to achieve the results I have at Lexington without the full support of the Lexy team whose hard work, passion and dedication is testament to their commitment to deliver excellent food and service.”

Paul Devoy, Head of Investors in People, said: “We have been overwhelmed by the number and calibre of entries received for the inaugural Investors in People Awards. It’s fantastic to see so many organisations nominated, demonstrating great people management practice and a commitment to staff development. Lexington should be extremely proud.”

In 2013, Mike won Foodservice Caterer of the Year at the 2013 Cateys for his contribution to the catering and wider hospitality world. Mike was praised for driving business innovations across the company and operating Lexington with strong people focused policies at the heart of the business.

In December 2013, Lexington was re-accredited with the Investors in People Gold Award and recently became an IIP Champion. The organisation was also awarded 3 Stars from Best Companies and moved up for places to rank number 7 in the Sunday Times Top 100 Best Companies.

Investors in People is the UK’s leading accreditation for business improvement through people management, and provides a wealth of resources for businesses to innovate, improve and grow, with a focus on good people making great business. For the full shortlist, visit www.investorsinpeopleawards.com
